Mission Statement
When one is faced with a life threatening illness, condition or disease perhaps the most valuable asset one can have is knowledge. When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer I learned very quickly, through the attitude and behavior of my urologist that doctors are in business and that it is not necessarily in their best interest to make sure you are the best informed patient. It was during the days immediately following the "dreaded news" that I had my eureka moment to not take my urologist's "advice" as gospel and do some serious research before deciding what treatment to undertake.
Not only did I voraciously read all I could find on the subject but I also talked to a lot of men in similar positions that had undertaken a variety of treatments, conventional or "alternative" and those who had decided on no treatment at all, or "watchful waiting" as I learned it is called.
The one thing that became clear to me was the woeful lack of information most of these men had at their disposal from which to make an informed decision. I had learned that almost half of men who had undergone a radical prostatectomy had made their decision to do so within 48 hours of being diagnosed. In other words they had not considered or researched any other options. And there are other options.
Having been a successful documentary filmmaker for 35 years I decided that I would explore this situation further and I am now producing a DVD that I believe will be of great interest for men who have been diagnosed with any prostate disease, but particularly cancer.
Most men understand that urologists mainly recommend a radical prostatectomy for men who "are still young and active". They are surgeons, that is what they do. Sometimes men are told about the various types of radiation therapy - general, bracytherapy, proton beam etc. Rarely they are informed about cryotherapy and some other more fringe treatments that still come under the general banner of conventional - meaning allopathic, AMA and pharmaceutical approved - treatments. Equally rare is it that a urologist will discuss with patients the rate at which the cancer returns following conventional treatments such as prostate removal where it can be as high as 35%. Almost never does a urologist discuss a radical change in lifestyle, diet, supplements, immune system support, detoxification and other ways of getting healthy that offer the body the best opportunity to "heal itself.
It is not my mission to sell men any treatment, supplement or anything outside the DVD I am producing. I do wish to inform men of all choices available to them and let them be the judge as to what they decide is best for them. The first step on the road to recovery is for men to take charge of their health and be responsible for it and the outcome. I wish all men with prostate disease God speed in their chosen journey.
It is my mission to provide information in an easily assimilated form - video DVD - so he can make an informed decision. Since most allopathic doctors only provide the treatments that are available to them and from which they make their living (remember they too are in business), this DVD will acknowledge these options but since there are many other sources that describe the up side of these treatments, we will explore and provide the details of treatments other than surgery, radiation and cryotherapy. As in other aspects of life medicine is no different in how one needs to approach our options as a consumer - caveat emptor! Go ahead with peace and love but go ahead fully informed.
