No: 3 in a series of articles  -  Bio Dentistry

It is my plan to write about each of the health practioners I interview in producing this DVD on Alternative Treatments for Prostate Cancer and to discuss some of the protocols and modalities they espouse. My first interview was with Dr. Harold Ravins DDS.

Dr. Ravins has a holistic dental practice in West Los Angeles and has been at the forefront of biological dentistry for over 30 years.  One consideration for treatment of prostate disease is the removal of toxins from the body, particularly heavy metals. At the top of this list is the removal of mercury amalgam fillings, particularly those that
are over 7 years old.  The safe removal of mercury fillings is a specialty not practiced by every dentist. The American Dental Association has been slow in acknowledging that amalgams are a problem, let alone recommending their removal as an important step in detoxification of the body.

Dr. Larry Clapp has undertaken significant research on the issue of mercury and other heavy metal toxins and their impact on prostate disease to the point where removing amalgams is the first order of the day for disease
recovery. One cannot remove heavy metals from the body without first taking them out of the mouth. More subtle is the connection of energy meridians that flow through the mouth and directly to the pelvic area and reproductive organs, including the prostate.

The point being that if there is disease in the mouth or ‘energy blocks’ on those meridians, the disease can manifest itself in organs that radiate along those meridians.Cardiology made the connection between heart disease and the mouth a decade or more ago. Urology, however, has not made a similar connection regarding the prostate as has been established by Dr. Ravins and other holistic dentists. The mouth can reveal problems in the rest of the body, and disease or syndromes from other parts of the body can reveal themselves in the mouth. It is a skill in which more and more dentists are becoming educated.  As Dr. Ravins said, “We recognize that dental care must be concerned with the systemic interactions of the whole patient.

We have gained national recognition for our developments and practices in the fields of biologic and whole body dentistry.”During our filming we recorded Dr. Ravins removing an amalgam filing and replacing it with an inert composite. The fascinating part for me was how Dr. Ravins photographed the ‘hole’ in the tooth where the filling had been with a small digital camera, fed that picture into a computer, designed or created a crown or filling in the computer and then had a small CAD CAM milling machine cut a ‘filling’ out of porcelain or composite so accurate that it simply drops into the hole very much like a perfect fitting jigsaw piece. The whole operation including the manufacture of the filling was performed in his office in less than one hour.

One more item of interest to me. The American Dental Association tells us that amalgam fillings, which are 50% mercury, are perfectly safe, but when they are removed they instantly become toxic waste and have to be disposed in a special container according to federal guidelines. One more statistic, dental assistants have a higher than normal incidence of mercury toxicity. There is more to Dr. Ravins and his recommendation regarding the connection between the mouth and prostate disease. His website is www.ravcoholistic.com
