No: 20 in a series of articles  - Dr. Douwes ...

My trip to Germany was significant in as much as I have met several men in the USA who have been successfully treated for prostate cancer with hyperthermia by Dr. Friedrich R. Douwes M.D. at the Klinik St. Georg in the small Baverian spa town of Bad Aibling. Germans in general and their doctors in particular have a much more positive view of holistic and natural medicine than their American counterparts. When it comes to prostate cancer they are much more open to treating the whole person not just the gland. Their attitude reflects a statement once made to me by Dr. Jennifer Echert NMD, “It is not the organ that is offending, it is the organ that has been offended.”

According to Ralph Moss at www.cancerdecisions.com, Germany has long been a world leader in cancer research and treatment. German biologists pioneered almost every step in understanding the nature of this disease. German doctors are well trained and well informed on all aspects of cancer care. In the use of complementary medicine they are without peer in the West. German doctors have either pioneered or expanded the use of mistletoe, enzymes, thymic peptides, immunotherapy, hyperthermia, and a host of other innovative techniques.

At Dr. Douwes’ Klinik St. Georg, in addition to conventional medicine (surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) they offer nutritional supplements, detoxification, biological/nontoxic treatments that include phytotherapy, mistletoe, hormones, cytokines, biological response modifiers, immune therapy, hyperthermia, Galvanotherapy, and psychological therapies including group therapy, guided imagery and art therapy.

According to Dr. Douwes, in prostate cancer the transurethral hyperthermia has, in addition to the normalization of the micturition, the effect that it kills the cancerous tissue in the gland. The blood supply of cancerous cells are organized differently to that of healthy cells and are also more heat sensitive. Hyperthermia treatment interrupts the supply of circulation to the cancerous cells forcing them to either die or preventing them from dividing further.

In transurethral hyperthermia, a probe is introduced through the urethra into the prostate and using short waves is heated to between 45-70°C (113°-158°F). After one or two treatment sessions, each lasting between 60-180 minutes, examination results improve dramatically. Even in patients with prostate cancer, where the disease is considered inoperable, results show that a significant improvement can be achieved.

Dr. Douwes further states that transurethral prostate hyperthermia is not a surgical procedure rather a much gentler alternative method of treatment. Advantages of this form of treatment are: no operation with high risk factors; no anaesthetic; no post-operative complications, less financial & emotional stress.

Dr. Douwes and his team of doctors receive patients from around the world with a remarkable number from the USA who have seen their prostate tumor destroyed by hyperthermia and their general health rebuilt with immunotherapy and other support treatments including but not limited to nutritional changes to their lifestyle. Information that the average American does not get from his urologist or oncologist and something that the average American should know about and include in their life whether or not they are prostate disease.
