No: 15 in a series of articles - Bruce Lipton Ph.D....
Being confronted with a potentially terminal disease can generally do one of two things for you. Either you will stand up, take responsibility for your condition and challenge the disease or you will roll over and let the disease take its course. Of course this is need not necessarily be a black and white issue and there can be many shades of gray. It depends very much on how open-minded the patient is to taking responsibility, questioning authority and exploring, without prejudice, the world of potential cures around them. It is no secret in today’s active media that we have a mind/body connection and that the course of a chronic disease can be altered, if not reversed through manipulation of the body by the mind. For many this is a hard subject to wrap one’s mind around since one can easily dismiss that whole subject as witch-doctoring, voodoo or the like.
There is no doubt in my mind that “energy medicine”, as much of this sector of healing is now called, can change the course of chronic disease. In my studies of this subject I came across a DVD called the New Biology by Dr. Bruce Lipton Ph.D., a prominent cellular biologist. To say this knocked my existing thoughts of the mind body connection laterally is a gross understatement. It was one of those “ah ha” moments for me; particularly the second segment that deals with the effects of stress on the cellular biology. Stress and cancer being one of the areas I am currently exploring for my prostate cancer documentary.
Dr. Lipton began his scientific career as a cell biologist. He received his Ph.D. Degree from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville before joining the Department of Anatomy at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine in 1973. Dr. Lipton’s research on muscular dystrophy, studies employing cloned human stem cells, focused upon the molecular mechanisms controlling cell behavior. His impressive list of credentials can be found at his website www.brucelipton.com.
His book Biology of Belief is a concise, easy to read and understand treatise on how the new science of Epigenetics is revolutionizing our understanding of the link between mind and matter. What was eye opening for me is that a cell can be considered as a miniature human body possessing the functional equivalent of our nervous, digestive, respiratory, endocrine, excretory, muscle and skeletal, circulatory, reproductive and immune systems. To quote Dr. Lipton, “Every cell is an intelligent organism. You can remove it from the body, put it into a Petri dish and it will manage its own life: handle the environment, grow, reproduce and form communities with other cells. In the human body we are dealing with a vast community of cells working together in harmony.
A renaissance in Cell Biology now provides the cutting edge science - real science - to prove how holistic health therapies work! Research scientist Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., introduces a long-awaited paradigm shift in the biomedical sciences. The new science will inspire your spirit, engage your mind and challenge your creativity as you comprehend the enormous real potential for applying this information in your life and in your profession.
